Florida Water Tours In the News with Flagler College Gargoyle!

Sydney Preston, author of the article “Florida Water Warriors bring underprivileged kids on the water to get a firsthand experience of marine biology” published in 2023.

Preston met with Educational Director for Florida Water Warriors, Kristie Corrigan, and discussed the mission behind Florida Water Tours’ non-profit.

Corrigan discusses all the amazing educational opportunities Florida Water Warriors brings to the community. “We want to provide eco education to all. No matter the age, we want to keep that cost low so that it is accessible to everyone” Corrigan stated.

Children of all ages and financial backgrounds are encouraged to dive into the marine biology world. Florida Water Warriors is highly hands on and interactive. It is an amazing educational experience that can spark interests in many children.

Some activities that Corrigan and her students do on the water are to obtain water samples, test salinity and pH levels and collect plankton samples, then they send the data they collected to the NOAA, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Corrigan said “ The kids are like little marine biologists and their work is actually helping bigger scientists”.

Preston highlights the work that Florida Water Tours is doing to keep this non-profit alive for the children.
