What to Wear on a Boat Tour in St. Augustine: A Guide for All Weather
FLORIDA WATER TOURS
October, 2024
St. Augustine offers a unique blend of history and natural beauty, making it an ideal spot for a boat tour. By dressing in layers and considering the weather, you can enjoy your adventure comfortably and stylishly. Because remember, it’s colder on the water. Here’s a guide on what to wear, whether the sun is shining or a cool breeze is blowing.
Warm Weather Essentials
During the day, when the temperatures are high, comfort and breathability should be your top priorities. Dress to sweat, you’re in Florida!
1. Lightweight Tops
- Options: Choose lightweight, breathable fabrics. Women, think tank tops, or flowy short sleeves. You can never go wrong with a nice sundress. Men think cotton shirts or button up short sleeves.
- Colors: Don’t even think about wearing black. Lighter colors will reflect the sun…whites, beiges, cream colors, light blues, etc.
2. Stylish Bottoms
- Options: You might feel claustrophobic in jean pants, so maybe find some nice linen pants to let some air in. Shorts are a heck yes! Ladies…skirts, long or short would do the job. My men, khaki shorts or golf shorts would work! (If you don’t care to be stylish, go ahead and wear some athletic shorts).
- Tips: Pockets are everything; trash those fake pocketed pants already.
3. Sun Protection
-
Hat: When in the sun, protect your face.
- Sunglasses: You can still see the dolphins with sunglasses on!
- Sunscreen: When buying sunscreen in Florida, buy reef-safe, sweat resistant sunscreen.
4. Footwear
- Options: I would steer away from flip flops, heels, crocs without the strap in the back…anything that would cause you to trip, slip, and throw you overboard.
Cool Weather Essentials
Now if you are like me, you are always cold. You bring a jacket with you anywhere you go, even in 88 degree weather because you might get chilly inside stores. Well once that sun goes down, hand me my jacket because I am cold… combine it with the Intercoastal Waterway and a breeze and I am even more chilly!
Here are some tips for how to dress for the cold weather here in St. Augustine.
1. Colder days:
This doesn’t happen often, only between the months December-February. Or if it is a cloudier day then you may consider:
Tops:
- Ladies, long sleeve shirts by itself, a long sleeve shirt with a jean jacket or comfortable zip-up!
- Men, think layering! A short sleeve shirt with a jacket over top; half quarter zip-up or a button down shirt over top.
- Tips: Look for jackets with breathable fabrics to ensure you don’t overheat. A waterproof windbreaker or a light rain jacket is essential for unexpected showers and to block the wind
Bottoms:
- Women, it’s legging weather! Jean pants, jean skirts, long skirts, and leggings would be ideal.
- Tips: Choose bottoms that allow for easy movement and comfort. You want something that is boat resistant, wind resistant and comfortable to get up and sit down in!
- Men…Jeans, khaki pants, you could even wear shorts if you are a warm body.
Footwear
- On colder days, there’s no need for the piggy’s to be out… sneakers, boots, vans, whatever you are comfortable in that is slip resistant.
- Cold Nights:
It gets cold at night when the sun goes down. In the winter time of north Florida, it can get pretty cold for our Florida natives.
Tops:
- Women: Long sleeves, sweaters, jackets, thick windbreakers or sweatshirts. Layer up!
- Men: Long sleeves, jackets, sweatshirts.
Bottoms:
- Women: You are crazy if you wear shorts! Go for jeans, thermal leggings under your dress, or leggings.
- Men: Jeans, Khakis, comfortable warm pants.
Accessories for cold weather:
-
- Scarf
- Hat
- Gloves
- Camera
